How about a little switch from the memes and comedy, and a little dive into something that interests me…music. Music streaming has become a hot commodity nowadays. You see everybody using their phones to stream music from their favorite apps such as Spotify, Apple Music, or even Amazon Music. Whether we are in our car, listening on headphones, or even playing music out loud, streaming services have taken over the ability to access music. Millions of songs are available over the internet at your fingertips, and with the availability of categorizing songs into playlists, sharing them with others, and being up to date with the latest releases, it’s the best option to listen to music if you have a smartphone, which more than most people do.
While this has enabled us to access tons of music in an instant, what does it mean for the artists themselves, and the companies that run these streaming services? This means record deals, Billboard numbers and awards, and money is highly involved. Such a small group of people buy physical copies anymore that the industry has to alter record deals and the way artists acquire money. This is both a sin and a virtue in my opinion. Record labels now take advantage of these deals and these options, manipulating the artists’ money and what music they can put out.
